Jr/Sr High Guidance

Our senior high school guidance staff works with students to determine the best courses to take to achieve all their future goals. We provide academic support for students and help them research the best colleges and career opportunities to help make their dreams come true.

ACT

The ACT exam is a national standardized exam. Colleges and scholarship bodies use the scores from this exam when determining eligibility. All students who wish to continue their education beyond high school should take this exam starting their junior year of high school. Students are responsible for registering for the exam online.

The ACT is not offered at North Cedar, however, students can still take it at neighboring high schools.  Tipton and Mount Vernon High Schools both offer the test.  Here are the dates and registration deadlines for 2023:

February 11, 2023 – Tipton HS. Jan. 6th registration deadline

April 15, 2023 – Mt. Vernon High School. March 10th registration deadline

June 10, 2023 – Tipton HS. May 5th registration deadline

Cost (no writing): $50.50
Cost (with writing): $67.00

Students who receive free or reduced lunch may qualify for a fee waiver. Stop in the counseling office to see Ms. White for a fee waiver and/or test prep materials.

Accuplacer

Accupacer is an untimed, computerized test that helps your prospective college evaluate your skills and place you into appropriate courses. For most courses through Kirkwood Community College, you need to complete the reading and writing exams. You will receive your Accuplacer results immediately after completing the test, and your score report includes messages informing you what courses you should take.
