Each month the North Cedar School Board shares two or three highlights of our monthly board meetings. These takeaways are messages that the board collectively feels are important for the public to know. Here are the highlights from the July 17, 2023 regular meeting:
- North Cedar’s Four Priorities. The 2023 legislative beliefs are that public schools are a foundation of society, and the state should provide full funding to public schools before giving financial support to non-public schools. Public schools have an obligation to provide parents and taxpayers with accountability and transparency in the use of taxpayers dollars. For the 2023-24 school year, the district’s four priorities are drop-out/at-risk, mental health, teacher professional development and retention, and supplemental state aid.
- Thank you to April Wiggins. The board would like to thank April Wiggins for the time she has served on the board. If you are interested in filling this seat on the board, please send letters of interest to the district office.
- PPEL Renewal. The board would like to emphasize that this is a tax renewal and not a new tax. This levy is used to construct and maintain our schools and buildings and roads to our buildings. It may be used to purchase, lease, or lease-purchase of equipment or technology exceeding $500 per transaction. It may be used to help with energy conservation projects. The levy can be used to purchase or lease transportation equipment. It can be used for the demolition, clean up and other costs incurred within two years of a natural disaster. These are just some of the ways we use this money.
