Each month the North Cedar School Board shares a few highlights of our monthly board meetings. These takeaways are messages that the board collectively feels are important for the public to know. Here are the highlights from the June 20, 2022 regular meeting:
- Retirement Best Wishes. The board thanks Hobert Flory and Steve Scott for their years of service to North Cedar. Both were additional retirements accepted this month. Good luck in retirement!
- Technology Purchases. Two grade levels of high school students will receive new MacBook Air computers this fall and lower elementary school students will have updated iPads. The purchase agreement with Apple allows the district to continue the goal of providing every student with the latest devices in the 1:1 technology initiative.
- Ballpark Agreement Extended. The district entered into a 20-year lease extension with the City of Lowden for use of the baseball and softball fields. The long-term commitment will allow the district to make repairs to the diamonds and explore upgrades to the concession stands and restrooms.
- Student Fees Remain Unchanged. Student feeds for the 2022-23 school year will not increase. The board felt it was important to minimize any additional financial burden on families given the current economic conditions. The prices for annual student, adult and family activity passes will decrease as North Cedar enters the Tri-Rivers Conference this fall. Admission for seniors (60+) to events are free with a pass. Contact the district office for more information on activity passes.
